Missy brings over 25 years of extensive experience in healthcare-related consulting, audits, forensic accounting and litigation support, including more than two decades of collaboration with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on healthcare fraud investigations. She is actively engaged with DOJ on numerous healthcare fraud cases with and litigation support projects, offering her expertise in financial and claims analysis. Missy is also a seasoned trial expert, having provided testimony for more than 25 healthcare fraud federal criminal trials and sentencing hearings, as well as delivering critical non-testimonial support to trial teams. In addition to her work in criminal cases, Missy has offered litigation support and consulting services on numerous civil matters, including the preparation of comprehensive forensic consulting and expert reports
She is responsible for assisting the Department of Justice (DOJ) with various aspects of healthcare fraud investigations, including assistance with indictment preparation, calculating damages, identifying key issues, conducting asset tracing, uncovering money laundering schemes, performing forensic analyses of bank records, and analyzing claims trends and data. Her responsibilities also include calculating the lowest intermediary account balances, evaluating length of stay patterns, analyzing patient cycling, conducting time studies, assisting with preparation of seizure warrants, creating trial charts, and collaborating with whistleblowers and counsel on qui tam investigations involving false claims submitted to the government. Her extensive experience includes working in several DOJ Strike Force cities as part of joint government agency teams investigating healthcare fraud.
In addition to her work with the DOJ, Missy oversees forensic accounting efforts for our state clients, focusing on cases involving the financial exploitation of vulnerable adults. She brings extensive experience in leading her team to conduct thorough reviews of financial documents, helping to guide Adult Protective Investigators in identifying potential misappropriation of funds. Her work involves close collaboration with investigators and law enforcement to support the resolution of these cases effectively.
She also has experience performing audits on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) related to chief financial officer (CFO) audits, regional office audits, and agreed-upon procedure (AUP) projects. She also has experience with disproportionate share hospital (DSH) state procedures, Medicare cost reports, Medicare audits, and state of Maryland on-site audit work. She is proficient in Medicare, Medicaid, Tricare, and private insurance claims related to all provider types.
Missy is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and an Accredited Healthcare Fraud Investigator (AHFI).
