Kevin Yates is a Principal at Myers and Stauffer, based in the Kansas City office, with over 25 years of specialized expertise in Medicare and Medicaid auditing and consulting services. He has extensive experience collaborating with state Medicaid agencies and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), providing strategic support for cost report reviews, Medicaid financing, disproportionate share hospital (DSH) examinations and payments, Medicaid upper payment limit (UPL) calculations, and the design and approval of Medicaid state-directed payment programs.
Kevin has been instrumental in advancing key CMS initiatives, including developing nationwide Medicare cost report risk assessments, worksheet S-10 reviews, leading nationwide training programs, and overseeing Intern and Resident Information System (IRIS) duplicate reviews. His contributions extend to creating and implementing nationwide review programs designed to ensure compliance and efficiency within Medicare reimbursement systems.
Before joining Myers and Stauffer in 2006, Kevin served as an auditor for a Medicare fiscal intermediary and worked with a national certified public accounting firm, auditing and preparing Medicare and Medicaid cost reports. This dual perspective as both an auditor and reimbursement consultant equips Kevin with a unique ability to navigate complex reimbursement issues and provide innovative solutions for his clients.
As a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and a leader of the Cost Report Attest and DSH Audit engagement team, Kevin brings a commitment to regulatory excellence, technical expertise, and practical business acumen. His strategic approach empowers clients to confidently address intricate reimbursement challenges and optimize financial and regulatory outcomes.
